I just picked up this little guy tonight and he was labeled as a halfmoon but I've yet to see his fin go 180 degrees. So I was wondering if you all could help identify him.

Looks more like a SD

Show the boy a mirror, and when he flares you should be able to see his 180 spread if he is Halfmoon.
But either way, he is Beautiful!
Georgous boy you've got there!

It's hard to tell in the photos, but he looks really close to halfmoon at least- his tail fans out very nicely. I have some fish that will sometimes hit 180 degrees when flaring but not every single time. Depends on how lazy they're feeling that day.

k i just had an image in my head of a little betta on a chair drinking a pint of beer :S

I'm terrible with identifying betta morphs, but regardless...he is beautiful :)

God Bless,
Joshua

Ok I got some better pictures of him. Even got him to flare a little bit today. I decided to name him Azul.

Hopefully those pictures are a little better than the webcam ones.

Ok bear with me im reeeeaaally new to tail types so looking carefully i think its a 180 spread so that would say its a halfmoon :)

Definitely looks like a 180 spread in the 3rd pic :good:
you cant see that its a hm in this picture, the dorsal is in the way and his dorsal isnt in flare infeact no part of him is in full flare, he does look like he has around 8 rays in one second which could suggest hm status but with the others being of a lower amount this will hold back on the hm and produce a sd only

Modaz, the bottom of the tail is at the correct angle. That's what I'm referring to, sorry for not specifying - and yes, you can't see the top because of the dorsal. -shrug-

if he was in full flare you would see the edge of the tail above the dorsal due to it being longer than the dorsal, he's nat all in full flare so saying he's a hm isnt the fact and just misleading a member into a false understading of the tail type, the tail wont be proven without a full flare pic with the gills at full spread aswell.
