I had a Spare 35litre Tank that only had 3 WCMM in it. So they have now moved into main tank and this one is for my Female Betta when im done breeding.
i decided to take out the gravel and give it a good scrub, it had a nice thick layer of algae.

im think of having a gravel-less theme and just have plant that have Rhizomes. my thinking is that these plants can all be fixed to rocks and other ornaments throughout the tank.
Ive added a Moss Wall Experiment which i think has went fairly well :good:

That looks awesome with the java wall! I would love to copy your idea!

How did you do it?

I've tried to grow java moss but it never gets thick like that, even with strong light. And how do you keep it algae free?

That's wild - it looks like some surreal, if luxuriant, lawn, growing sideways so neatly as to look brushed.
I'm dying to see what you do next.

well what i did was, i got a folding washing basket , cut out one of the ends.
then got about three golf ball sized clumps of java moss , broke it apart then layed it out covering a good section of the Basket end.
and then i got some fishing line and wrapped it around the Basket end, trapping the moss.
after that i laid the basket end down on the floor of the tank so that it was like a carpet, then waited until the moss grew about an inch.
then i attached suckers to the Basket end and stuck it to the side of the tank.

i used a powerhead aimed directly at the moss since i find that it really grows in high flow.
i limited the to 8 hours of light and no heater.

I have to try this! It looks beautiful, I also noticed that the java moss near the top of the tank in the current does do a little better than the stuff in the gravel. Thanks for the instructions!

my betta only tanks are no substrate and the bettas get by fine. plus its way easy to clean.

for some reason my java moss always dies off

I think I might be the only person in the world to kill java moss... no probs with any other plants though.

Although I do have a clump growing very readily on a piece of driftwood......... no "taking over the tank" though.

i think the only time i ever kill java moss is when i leave it a clump lying out of tank and it dries out

I like the moss wall but think it would look better back as carpet, especially as you're having no substrate

uuuumm i think rhizomatus plants do need substrate to get nutrients from!.. i have an Anubias and it does better with flourite then it did without it. :good:
