Hi Everyone,

Well I've finally figured out how to use my digital camera properly and I took some pics of my new fish that I received yesterday! At first the pics I tool were over 5Mb in size each so I've changed the file format from BMP to JPEG and now they are all less than 100Kb each. I'm not sure how much this has affected the picture quality though. Can anyone give me any feedback on the pic quality if they want :) Hope you like the fish!!!.... They are all very young but I'm not sure how young! They are all just under an inch in length.

First one:

Please excuse the cotton thread, It's there to attach the java moss to the bog wood and this is the only colour my mum had!!!

Third Pic:

Sorry about the flash on this picture, I was going to delete it but I think this pic shows the bluey/green colour of the fish very well!

beautiful killi you have there Kris-b very vibrant.

and er thats not cotton thread it's string. you may want to change that for cotton thread. theres a lot of string to rot in your tank there. look in your mums sewing kit. black would be best but grey or brown would still be more pleasing to the eye. cotton thread is much thinner than that, you'll hardly see it.

 I'm clueless when it comes to sewing, I thought it was all the same thing! It's been attached for quite a few weeks so I'm thinking of cutting it off soon! There was only that colour or white :/

I'm adding some more plants soon as the floating plants I bought from ebay caused me to have pond snails, so I had to remove them :(

Are you trying to breed them?

Not at the moment, I'm still learning all about them with BigC's help! And I think they are still young to anyway but hopefully once they mature I might consider removing the substrate and go ahead with it!

Extremely nice fish. One down point with the setup, ditch the sand and go for a darker substrate, Then and only then will you see the true beauty of your new aquisitions. I have also mentioned this to Bloozoo2 on this forum. Do that, then take some more pics I bet you they will be even more impressive.
I am speaking from experience as once I showed a breeders team (3 males - 3 Females) of Aph. Striatum at a Yorkshire Aquarists Festival, I could not attend on the setting up night so I left them in the capable hands of my fellow aquarist society colleagues and to my horror on public viewing day they were shown over sand and a strong light which had the effect of completly washing out the colouration. Lesson learnt...
This goes for almost all Killifish species: Dark gravel subdued lighting or surface plants. Try it and see!
Regards
BigC

Cheers for the input BigC!

This weekend I'm hopefully going to find/buy some floating plants to subdue the lighting a little.

Regarding the sand I'll have a look at getting either a darker coloured gravel or a finer dark substrate! My pictures really don't do them any justice! Sitting here looking at them they are a much bluey/green colour so I'm going to dig out the manual for my camera and learn to take some better pics!

All input much appreciated! I've waited so long to get some killifish and now I'm just sooo happy!
