My Moray Bit My Hand The Git!

I was syphoning water out and doing a change which is getting harder in my brackish tank cos one G Tiles eel circles around trying to bite me. He got me today and it fecking hurt (big wuss eh) drew blood and all. I have two puncture wounds on my finger.

Other than keeping vigilant (which I was but he came from different angle) I can't stop this in future can I. even if I fed him before he goes in a frenzy at feeding time!!!

anyone else been bit bite these? glad it wasnt the toadfish cos they looks like he'd have my finger off when they bites!!

Gawd, sounds painful................don't think I fancy keeping something that bites me!

Yeah i've been bitten at work...was catching one for a customer and the other one in the tank bit me...wasnt too bad i thought But i made a splash quickly pulling my hand out of the water in shock!

Moray eel bites can be very serious. Marco Lichtenberger wrote a very detailed (and gruesomely illustrated, be warned) article for Conscientious Fishkeeper last month on this very topic. In a nutshell, while moray eel bites are not particularly toxic, the risk from secondary infections is very serious. His advice is simple: keep your hands out of a moray tank.

I feel much better now after reasing that!! lol

I cleaned it at the time cos I've read before about secondary infections. time to get some large tongues I think!!!

the shock of the bite made me jump like a big girl though!



luckily they are only 16 or so inches, I wouldn#'t fancyt a bite off a 5ft eel
