My Moody Severum

Can anyone help?

I have got a severum which is approximately 20cms and 5 years old. I guess it is a female as evry so often it lays eggs. I keep it in a large 6x2x2 tank and used to have a mixture of tropical fish with it. My main question is that the severum is very very moody and terrorises any other fish. My tank got down to 1 other fish a large kissing Gourami (20cm) but this was lonely so today I have purchased 4 new fish for the tank but the severum is permanently chasing the other fish and I believe that it will adventually kill them.


What can I do about this fish? It is lovely looking but I would rather have a dozen fish than just 1 moody one!

Would a shop have it off me if so how would it work?

ask the shop if they will take it, if they say yes then you bag it up and take it to them some lfs will do a trade with you some may not.

it maybe just showing who is the boss of the tank and defending it's territory, when was the last time she layed eggs she maybe is about to lay again and is becoming aggressive.

Hello, It has been a while since she last layed eggs. she has moved a massive amount of gravel from the bottom of the tank so I guess she is getting ready. She's a beautiful fish! I would just like to have other fish in the tank also.

I have added 2 small oscars, another kissing gourami and a parrot fish.


I have had plecs, another severum, angel fish, various tiger barbs, large tinfoil barbs, parrot fish e.t.c.

I suppose I will have to look for a new home for her

how many gallons is the tank there all in?

20cm doesnt seem very big for a 5 year old sev.

Call the lfs, tell them you have a severum that isn't getting along with your other fish... then ask if they will take it... they should give you something for it.

Hello, unsure as to how many gallon are in the tank, My husband deals with that all I know is that the tank is 6x2x2 and it takes 55 buckets to fill!

The actual body of the severum is 20cms.
