This morning i found one of my favorite mollies upside down on the bottom of the tank :-( . He wasn't moving at all but he was breathing very slowly. I used a cup and put him in a large net breeder, then i added some Molly Bright and stress coat. He flipped back over onto his belly but he still looks very sick. Then i had to leave for the stupid bus. So, if he's still alive when i get home what sould i do? All my other fish look fine.

What size is the tank, what other fish you have and filtration? Also, whats your stats for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and ph?
What kind of molly? as some prefer more salt than others.

I came home perpared for the worst but i found him happily swimming around in the net breeder. I still have now idea what caused him to get so sick, he was fine at 10:00 the night before. one thing i noticed is that he sometimes will go up to the top of the water and breath from the surface which he normally dosn't do :/ . He is really small only a little over 2" and he hasn't really grown that much scene i got him. I still want to figure out what was wrong with him so here is all that useful info:
Tank- 55 gal. Fish- 4 adult mollies (2 female)(2 male), 4 young mollies, 1 swordtail (m), 3 long finned dainos, 2 otos, 2 cory cats, and 2 sparkling gouramis. Filter is a Rena xp3.
water stats:
ammonia-safe
nitrate-40
nitrite-0
ph-7.2

oh, he's a lyertail dalmation molly.

Good that hes recovered for you. Filtration is good, but nitrates could do with coming down a touch unless its reading from the tap at that.
As none of the other fish showed anything wrong then maybe not enough air gettting in? Do you have an airstone or is it a spray bar back into the tank? As long as theres surface agitation then enough oxygen is getting in. How much water do you change each week in the tank? Maybe for now either upping it or doing twice weekly will help.

Who knows, maybe he had gas :)

O.K. now he's messed up again, he sometimes sits on the bottom at a slanted angle but then he swims around fine :/ . This has happened a few times before it comes randomly and it drives me crazy because i don't know what causes it :S . (The flipping over thing has never happened though), but if i add stress coat, molly bright, or quick cure it goes away sometimes within 5 min. which gets me really confused :S :S . Sometimes giving him a little food makes it go away. Another thing i've noticed is that he rarely eats any meaty foods frezze dried blood worms he dosen't touch, frozen brine srimp sometimes a few. So, could a lack of meaty foods make him get sick :/ , Because all the other mollies gobble up these foods like it's the last time they will eat. Also none of my other fish have ever had any of these problems.

Yeah and about the nitrates the tap water has a reading of 20 i've been tring to get it lower but no good. I do water changes every 1 1/2 weeks and change about 25% of the water. Would changing more water like 30 or 35% help get it lower?

Thanks for the help Black Angle and sorry about all the ?

Do you have a quarantine tank so you can get him some tonic salt.
It looks like the fish is stressed and this gives them diseases. Do 30% water changes twice a week to see if this helps the other fish too. Mollies really should be in salted water for them to get the minerals they need.
