My Molly Dropped Fry....

It might be best to have your water tested or buy a liquid testing kit, your tank hasn't been set up for long has it?

When did you set your tank up and how soon after did you add your fish? this could be why your fish seem to be dying?

I have set up my tank 2 weeks before and added the fish after a week..... this was the only fish which died since then, so havent thought it culd be a problem with my tank setup... got to check the stats.....

I doesn't sound like your tank has cycled fully i'm afraid, and the more fish you add the worse its going to get.

yes you do need to check your stats before you put any more fish in otherwise you might lose more fish. the nitrogen cycle takes about 6-8 weeks on average to build up a load that can accept your fish's bio load.

It might be good to read up on cycling in the beginners section cycling :good:

Thanks Tracey for all the help.... The LFS guy said that I can add the fish immediately, but i havent done that.. and did some sample tests with our tap water.... and they were fine, then I have added the fish... I now think that i made a mistake not to cycle the tank fully... wil do that first... thanks once again for ur help...

Ur welcome,i'm still a newbie myself but i am learning :)

If you can purchase a freshwater liquid test kit,api is a well known and recommended kit.it will make life a lot easier, has you are now on a fish in cycle, testing the water and doing daily water changes to keep your fish from being poisoned by the ammonia/nitrites.

Good luck and keep us posted :good:

Even am learning things now Tracey... :) ... my Marble Sailfin molly is getting ready for her second batch now... expecting that to be sometime this week.... :) but the male who impregnated her died, the same one we were discussing abv.. :(

I already have around 50 :hyper: 10 from the same Marble Sailfin and the rest from the new Lyretail Black molly which was bullying now... and now again another batch.... my guppy even is getting ready to drop a batch... cant imagine how many will i have in all :hyper:

wow lots of fry!! :good: have you got them all in the 2 gal bowl? they will start to get over crowded if your not careful, might be better if you could set up a bigger tank, keep at the water changes daily,if i were you i'd put an airstone in with the fry to circulate the water, once they get bigger you will probably need to get a filter running sooner or later,a sponge filter working off an airpump are ideal for small fry. :)

Hows the main tank going? have you tested the water?
