im not really ready to take care of them i dont have the right stuffbut with my canister filter i sure dont want them getting sucked up either. how well are mollies at taking care of themselves at birth? should i just buy a breeding cage to put up in my tank? assuming they live that long since i wouldnt be able to get one till monday night, any advise would be nice

If it is well planted then the fry should be able to survive til separated from the main population Otherwise it may be hit and miss due to molly's eating their young or others eating them depending on what you have as tank mates

the exact same thing happened to me as well! it was on a weekend and i had no way of getting a breeding trap etc so I'm afraid I just had to let nature take its course. I'm not sure how many fry there were at first... about 7 made it past the first week, and 6 weeks later I have 4 still here. If you have a few plants, decorations they find hiding spaces from other fish so some should survive. to feed i just crumbled a little flake food into tiny pieces. hope this helps and good luck

An awful lot depends on the cover in your tank and what other fish you keep. Molly fry are quite large compared to many other fish and will do well if they have adequate cover. Even on their "birthday" molly fry can thrive with small numbers of peaceful adults. This picture was taken when the fry in the picture were less than 12 hours old. I don't know how exactly old, but no fry when I went to work and the picture was taken when I got home. The fry drop happened somewhere in between.

Haha :hyper:
The first fish i ever had, my platies, the 1 gave birth in the bag back home. Still got the babies :)

You might want to cover the filter intake with a stocking to prevent the fry from getting sucked up.
