Was taking pics of my fish tonight and thought I'd share them with you all. Tonight, featured are my Melanotaenia Lacustris (Lake Kutubu, Turquoise, and Blue rainbowfish by common name.)

Without further ado:

nice :hyper:
i thought you had said on an earlier post that they were getting more blue? is it my monitor or these guys look super green?
your male looks like a younger version of mine you saw earlier today or something.
how old would you say they are?

Love these fish, top of my list for new tank beginning of the year, cant wait, plan on those, some praecox and if I can find any, some banded rainbows, nice big 110g tank with cories for the bottom :D

Lovely pics drobby :good:

Thanks :)

They are more blue in person and more blue at other times in the day. The flash washes out the blue somewhat. I need to make a video so that I can show how they truly look. I just need to get some sort of dvd ripping software so I can get the video on my computer.

Is it my imagination or do they have somehting on their eyes, at the bottom of the eye it looks a little funny?

Hiya

I have a couple of these rainbows. Mine change colour all of the time. In the mornings before my light comes on my big male's nose goes bright yellow. It stays like that for about 5 minutes and then just flashes yellow when he is beening chased! Earlier I was transfering my fish to my new tank and his nose was bright red. I don't think he was very happy!

They are very interesting to watch. I love them.

Cindy

The yellow stripe on the male's snout is a breeding stripe. All male rainbowfish produce one and it can vary in colour depending on species. They use it to show off to the girls :)

it's not so much when the lights go out, but first thing in the morning that they feel frisky :)

That's actually not true. My M. Duboulayi have no breeding stripe. Female Lacustris have a stripe too but is only seen while they are depositing eggs.

If you have a video on dvd, can't you just drag the video from the dvd into a folder on your hard drive? :good:
