Well you've gotta give them and A for effort. My macmasteri pair have spawned... or well the female has spawned. Not sure the male had anything to do with it... what colour should the eggs be?

They're sort of a creamy colour...

I'm genuinely shocked though, she's only about 2.5-3cm long. Surely she isn't old enough... I had been wondering why she kept darting back into that cave so much. I was thinking 'hmm... she's never been nervous before...'

I really don't think they're fertilised. She keeps swimming up to the male and flipping onto her side then swimming back to the cave... which I vaguely remember is her asking him to spawn? But whatever. I've only lifted it twice, once to look and then to take a picture. Whatever happens happens. I think if this batch comes to nothing then I might move out the current male and move in my slightly more mature male... good idea? Or will it be likely she's bonded with the current male?

I was going to say one of the main reasons I didn't think the male had had any part in the spawning was cause he wasn't defending the area. But I stand corrected. He is... but only when she comes out to keep an eye on him. lol. It's actually really quite funny. And he's never ever chased the rasbora before... neither has she for that matter. So fingers crossed... although I'm sure fertilised eggs are meant to be... orange?

Female has spawned again today. Not sure if these ones are fertilised either as I didn't see the actual laying take place... and the male is now at the opposite end of the tank. So who knows. It's looking promising though if she's spawning once every 12 days...

Maybe he just needs to mature a bit more and I'll have some apisto babies in the near future.

Well they spawned again, I gave her the larger male instead. Hopefully these are fertilised... however I decided to take them away from her as I'll be rehoming them in the near future so I'd like some fry first if possible. I feel really harsh though cause she's now searching the area looking for the eggs. :(

I gave in after 5 minutes and made a new plan. I took 1/3 of the eggs and now have them in a pot in the tank to hatch. And returned the rest to her. She went straight in to check on them and has resumed normal behavious, protecting and tending to them.

Fingers crossed both sets hatch out. But if only hers or only mine hatch then it'll give me a bit of experience as to what works... whether she eats them... etc etc.

Looks like my other female is getting ready to lay aswell cause she's causing mayhem in the other tank. Even going after the rams!
