My Lucky Bamboo plant and my clocks

My sister gifted me a lucky bamboo plant several years ago. It had several corkscrew shaped stems but a couple had to be trimmed. At one point, it reached the ceiling but I trimmed it back. I love the symmetry of this plant. This plant just requires watering but no fertilizers are needed. My sister has passed on but this plant is a constant reminder of her generosity and thoughtfulness.

It needed to be trimmed and reached the ceiling . Does it go through growth spurts or is it fairly uniform in its growth ? How about leaf color ? You say it needs no fertilization huh ?
I dig that clock .

It is fairly consistent in it's relatively moderate growth. Occasionally some leaves turn yellow and I trim them. That is caused by too much sunlight. The main thing is keep it watered. I didn't plant it, but I believe the pot is just filled with small gravel. Guess it gets nutrition from the air. If you try to fertilize it, It might will then have issues. Just water and give it filtered light. It doesn’t respond well to direct sunlight. I have it in front of translucent shades.

The 400 day clock (also is called an anniversary clock) is from the 1970s. It is a totally mechanical clock with gears. You wind it once a year. The 4 discs on the pendulum rotate back and forth continuously.

I have a couple of bamboo plants planted in aquarium gravel, in tanks. They do very well, though they don't exactly shovel in luck.

Thank you and amazing by todays tech standards that a wind up can not only function so long decades but keep time but then again those who have the old Eheim models and pretty much the old HOB filters know the old stuff works.

Even more amazing is this torsion pendulum clock: it’s an Atmos clock. It has a large rotating disc at the bottom that regulates the timekeeping. This clock is also mechanical with gears and hands turned by power from a mainspring. Where this differs from the 400 day clock is that no hand winding of the mainspring is required. The mainspring is wound via a gas containing drum at the rear of the clock that expands and contracts from temperature and atmospheric pressure changes and in turn keeps the mainspring wound. It will run for many many years without human interaction. Eventually after many years of running, it may need maintenance to give it continued performance for many more years. It’s almost like perpetual motion. Quite fascinating.

Wow ! I am very impressed by those two clocks . I like mechanical watches and clocks . The engineering that went into them back in the days they were built has not been surpassed . Digital clocks and watches are completely ho-hum in comparison .

It’s called a Zaandam clock. This one was made in the 1960s and is a copy of Zaandam clocks from the mid 1700s. It strikes the hours and half hours on a bell.

I suspect you have watched Antique Road Show , there was one episode with an antique wall clock think it was in England the actual worth was staggering .

Do you have a cuckoo clock?

I did own a cuckoo clock years ago but gifted it to my nephew. It had the cuckoo bird with "cuckoo" sound. Also had animated beer drinkers that lifted their glasses when the music played and also had a moving water wheel and dancers at the top. .
