I only have 2 fish stores local to me and they are both from the same chain. The thing is whenever I go into them I'd say they have more tanks that are being treated than that are for sale from. Should I travel further afield or is it a good thing that they have so many being treated as it means they are very pernickety with what they sell :dunno:

try the shop in cupar, ultimate aquatics, not too far and fairly good selection, theres also a good shop in stirling, riverside aquatics, also good selection but more expensive.

used to use riverside years ago when I had a tank, like you say they're a tad expensive but the fish are pretty good, tis bout a 45 mins away and I'm too lazy to go that far  might try the one in Cupar never realised there was one there cheers

I can vouch for Ultimate Aquatics even though we live in Essex! We have ordered from them before (obscure substrate that was really hard to source in the UK) and the guy there (Andrew) is extremely helpful and knowledgable.

Hi McRic :)

I think it good to see that those lfs treat their sick fish and do not just let them die like many stores do. But do you really want to buy a fish that has just recovered from an illness? I don't think so.

To be fair to them, the problem might not be with their care, they may come in like that from their distributor and the individual stores might not have the power to buy from a different one. There may be nothing they can do except to treat them.

I think it would be worth your while to buy your fish elsewhere even if it means traveling a bit. You could still get food and other supplies at your local store and try to encourage the staff there. Perhaps their situation will improve in the future. I do hope so.

speakin to the lass in store today it seems the batches are coming in a little under the weather shall we say. I was told nearly every batch of guppis that have came in ahave been diseased. The annoying bit is all the fish I like the look of seem to be under treatment! Aw well as you say its maybe time to travel a little further afield for a better selection and quality of fish.
