Hello to all,
I am trying to breed guppies, platies, and mollies. Here I plan to keep you all up to date with my sucesses and failiurs.

Currently I am focusing on guppies. I also beleive that I have a pregnant micky mouse platy and a red platy, plus two males. I thinjk my females have both given birth and I missed it but my mickymouse platy is very large so I am keeping a close eye on her.

I put my pregnant female guppy in a breeder's net where she remained for many days. She seemed happy enough so I let her be. I think she may have aborted her pregnancy, but she still has a dark gravid spot that changes color in light and dark settings. To help her along, whether she has a stored sperm or not, she and male are now livng together in a small tank until she gives birth.

I also have one guppy fry but have not determined gender yet. Was an extra accidently scooped up at petco.

I will keep you all updated, ecspecialy if I get any breed of fry. Can't wait and thanks in advance for replies. (Any helpful tips and tricks would be great!)

Hello,
I just adopted three guppies, I think two are female and one is a male. Four guppy fry were also scopped up and I plan to try and save them. So excited!

We recently bought some Guppies and Platies too which the females seem to be pregnant, we never noticed that one of our Guppies had actually given birth and we are currently looking out for live babies in the tank, at the moment we have got 7 found alive but not sure if there is any more, they had been hiding within the gravel to get away from the adults.

We now have the babies in a hatchery and they will remain there untill big enough to be released I suppose, or untill we get a smaller tank to place them in.
If you have any hints or tips could you also pass them on to us? Were new to this, it's unreal how much you need to keep watch like cause it can happy at any time :p.

Good luck with it, hope all goes well!

Anthony & Amy.

I don't have too many tips. You seem to be doing every thing right. Just crush food into a powder for the babies and the warmer the temp. the faster they will grow. It about 3-4 weeks your female will give birth again, she can give birth about 5/6 times without a male in the tank. Breeders nets or traps work well too. As long as your house is heated at atleast 70-80 degrees you can put them in an old cooler or plastic tub. Just make sure to keep it airated (you can do daily water changes or pour water down from a large enough hight every day for a few minutes to produce bubbles and get the oxegen molecules into the water.) To keep things clean just don't overfeed and do frequent water changes. When first putting them in the tub use fill it at least half way full with water from their previous tank to reduce stress.

Good Luck!! :good:

The air stone is useful for mixing the water to get lots of flow. Flowing water comes into contact with the water's surface which is what aerates it, not the bubbles themselves. Guppies or platies will do quite nicely at 70F although they readily tolerate temperatures near 80F. As Olivia has suggested, daily water changes will help keep your fry healthy and growing. We really do not care for fish. We care for water and the fish take care of themselves.
