Hello, I have recently got a Betta boy.
I went into a fish shop - which I hate with a passion, but needs must. On the counter in a tiny little vase - which held less than half a litre of water, looking very sad was a little Betta. I have never owned one, but I do keep fish and come on this forum regulary, so when I asked the shop about the little fish they told me that he could happily live in this tiny vase with water changes every three weeks I was horrified.I know I've never had a Betta but I know about tropical fish and water stats. They also told me all he ate was normal fish flake - when I asked about bloodworm etc, they told me they didn't 'think' they ate anything else and certainly hadn't tried it. I left the shop so upset, all I could think about was the sad little fish, and who they might sell him too, as some people probabily just accept that what this shop say is correct. Anyway I got back to work and came straight on here and read up. I realised that I could take care of him, so I rang the shop and told them I was coming back to get him and not to sell him.
So I went and got him that evening. He is now in a 2.5 uk gallon tank, with filter, in a warm room - I have ordered a small heater. I have fed him bloodworm, frozen shrimp, and I am getting some Betta food tonight.
The best part was last night when I got home he had built a bubble nest - so that means he's happy doesn't it. I am so excited. I love him to bits already, he sits by my bed, is dark red, and has been called 'Chuck'.
So thank you everyone all your knowledge has been a life saver for little Chuck.
If anyone has any tips or comments they will be welcomed.

Sounds like you are spoiling him already :). He couldn't have gone to a better home. Let the shop know that he loves brine shrimp and blood worms. What's wrong with these people?
