He's almost right, lol! I mean hey, most puffers need some salt... it's just that DPs aren't one of those puffers! :p

ok, let me guess. this LFS is owned by an older man, is in a smaller town, has been open for forever, and doesn't have too much competition. the reason i'm pointing this out is that the owner is probably a self-taught aquarist of the old school. he knows about keeping fish from years of experience and from what he has read in books and maybe magazines. i imagine he doesn't really use the internet except for email, if he uses it at all. while printed paper sources are great for general info on commonly encountered species, i've always been disappointed in them when it comes to specialist/oddball fish. the puffer info especially is crap, except for the Aqualog book (which is a hefty $60 and only 100 pages or so). unless this guy has some tough competition, he's really got no incentive to stock new or unusual fish--much less know about them off the top of his head.

one of the biggest obstacles i found when i first started online researching is that most of the devoted websites are incomplete, disagree, difficult to read/navigate and overall unappealing. the forums always seemed overwhelming and again, difficult to navigate or search. TFF is the first forum i've ever used, period. i really like this place because you get a sense of community and a good consensus of information. i also think TFF is an easy place to do research in, thanks to the pinned topics and various indexes (as well as our friend the search button).

i think that you should find out if this guy uses the internet, and then direct him to TFF. this is one of the premier places to go online for information and contains a wealth of easy to understand, up to date, and well thought out information. don't just blow this guy off; invite him to join the club.

Maybe I should; I know they have a website. For what THAT'S worth. They seem to know a lot and they have a large assortment of fish/critters, both FW and SW. They've just missed the boat on a few things lately. Other than Petsmart, Superpetz, Petland and Walmart, there is no competition. THere used to be 2-3 other fish stores, but they've all closed over the last few years. Bob's in the only one still open, and it's been around a while.
I agree, Paul MTS, this site rocks!!!
