Kribensis by Allan.Jones, on Flickr

Bought a pair of Kribs (One died pretty soon - shop owner is getting me another free of charge) and they were sold to me as 'pretty sure that's a male and female'..

Which one is left? I'm suspecting female?

yes this is defo a female..great looking fish. lots of fun to keep, especially when breeding

I would say female. The dorsal fin does not look long enough to be a male.

That fish is definitely a female and a pretty one at that. Make sure when you put the new male in that you move things around a little bit. The female has her territory set up and will heartily defend it, even to a possible mate.

Heres a male Krib.

That's a male. Are they about the same size? My male Krib killed two females who were much smaller than him, then got one about the same size and...they got jiggy.

Be prepared for them being pretty aggressive towards their tank mates if they do have fry.

The female is slightly bigger and has been bullying the male thus far!

Yep I'm aware of that and sourcing a smaller breeding tank for the event if it should occur.

Here's a quick iPhone snap of the pair - the female snapped for the male right after this!

You have 2 females. That is why there is so much bullying going on. A males pelvic fins should NEVER be tainted with purple or red. A light to dark blue is all you should see.

Think you may be right. Bigger one still chasing and starting to make a mess of the other's fins. Would adding a definate male lessen this? If not I'll get it back to a shop in exchange for a male.

Apologies for my shoddy sexing. The second pic does make it look like a female (furiously back peddeling), big fat belly and all. I always thought females has the "eye" on their dorsal fin? Or is that just some of them?

I don't know, but i'd imagine by adding a male, he would choose a partner then they would both bully the other one. It could help you to get a pair though, giving the male a choice of two hot female kribs! Then remove the other one? I'm probably better letting a more knowledgable person answer this though...but that's my 2 pence worth.
