just became an american *play dramatic music*
So i looked into my community cichlid tank and saw two of my keyholes with very dark, black markings and vigourisly guarding a corner of the tank. I look over the female was laying eggs, big round ones! I was so happy. This is the second cichlid that have bred in my tank(my blue rams were the first). I have 7 keyholes so i knew i had both sexes. I will get pictures after they're finished, as they are still laying eggs on a river stone at the moment and I dont want to distract them.
Just had to boast, this is the first time my keyholes have bred!
I was wondering, i have meth blue and was wondering if i should use it? I would need a lot for my 55gallon they are in, but also on the bottle is says it can cause ammonia spikes? So I'm not too sure I want to add it.
This has been a good week since my pygmy cories have also laid eggs recently and my female khuli loache is FULL of green eggs. Cupid must still be here from valentines day. -_-

whoa! congrats snowy!

if the meth blue is going to cause ammonia spikes i wouldnt recomed using it because it will kill the eggs and harm the fish

Wow the only thing I had successful breeding in my tank was a dalmation molly.  You're quite lucky. I am hoping some of my cichlids will breed when I set up my new 120 gallon and pick out some fish. :D

So when you sending some in the mail for me? COngrats on getting them to breed, wish my fish would get it on.

Still a beautiful and productive fish. I've always wanted to own cockatoos so you have my jealousy. I'm too cheap to buy them at $20-25 a pair :p . Maybe if they grew bigger I would. How about you breed your cockatoos and i have my keyholes and we'll do a switch, lol.

I would do that, lol. I guess I have to give them some time. They are expensive, I paid $15 alone for my male because he had the orange flash coloration.

Well today the eggs are still there, so mr. 11" pleco didnt get them in the night which is a relieve. Now we just need to wait and see if mom and dad can do the trick or if my water doesnt turn them bad. Would've been better if they laid eggs by my air stone, but thats spontaneous breeding for ya!

So I guess your keyholes weren't just sleeping all the time then? :p

try throwing in the cory eggs in the batch of cichlid eggs, maybe the cichlids will care for them without knowing?
lol

Good luck, wait no
You don't need luck
Keep your tank well balanced and I guess they will hatch! :p

better luck next time
