Hi All,

Im after some advice please.... the heater in my aquarium has unfortunately expired and the shops have closed for the day! Im after some suggestions as to what I can do to stop the temperature dropping too low. I've not encountered this before so Im not really sure where to head with it.

Many thanks in advance for any help!

Iain.

Put a blanket over the tank, and turn room temp up abit, good luck.

the key here might be to try and slow down the speed of the heat lost. A dramatic fall in temperature in a short amount of time would be far more dangerous than over a few more hours. Just try and slow it up, and don't be too worried if you lose a couple of degrees. Good luck.

Cheers for the advice....

Heatings turned up, wrapped the tank in blanket and I've been using a plastic bottle filled with hot water to try and keep it from losing too much heat. Hopefully it'll be ok when I get up in the morning and I can get a new heater!

Thanks,
Iain

MY THOUGHTS EXACTLY...

You can also although this is Minimal Help at best, But I know it WORKS, so it's worth a shot.

You can take a Hair Dryer if you've got one, and set it to Low and use it to Gently Heat your Air Tubing, Which in turn Heats the Air going through the tubing and into the tank, it really won't help to Raise the Temp any, but it does help it to keep from going any lower.

This is a lesson I learned the hard way.

Thats why NOW I have at least one Backup to every peice of Equipment I have for my Aquariums, Except the Tanks themseleves.

Sure it may look like a Fishy Parts Warehouse around here but at least I'm prepared.

And after all the Very Lives of the fish I Love so much are at stake if I let My Guard Down.

My Wife may not really like it, BUT...

You ought to SEE All the STUFF she has on hand for Her Birds....

The Only difference Is. I'm Fishy and Smell that way sometimes.

And she's just Plain Birdbrained...

Don't worry, they'll be fine. I have an awful habit of turning the heater off to do a water change... and only realising I haven't turned it back on when I do the water change a week later! My flats always quite warm though and it's never caused any casualties. Just leave the heating on in the room and go to the shop first thing.
