It has been running between 72-73 for the last couple of weeks :D and today, i checked it, and it was 77

I am sick to death of this now, the first few weeks i had it, i had to fiddle about with it, to get a constant reading, and today its gone haywire, and i dont know why, i havnt touched it up until seeing this, and i have turned it back and fro, so am waiting to see what happens, i also did a 20 litre water change, and put in cool water, just in case the fish were a little warm.... :)

Has anyone else got this problem??

In my other tank i have a VisiTherm Heater, and have NO problems what so ever, do you think i should take the standard one out of my vision, and buy a Visi?

it's always better to have quality brand name heaters over standard ones.

is it possible the room the tanks are in got warmer? cheaper heaters will usually not be as accurate and could cause the temp to go up if the room temp goes up.

77 is nothing to worry about though, not like the temp was 85 or so... I would get a quality heater, but i ahve a cheap one in one tank and it does ok so i guess it's up to you

Ha HA!

The curse of the Juwel heater strikes!

Throw it away and buy a Hagen/Fluval Tronic.

I have had three Juwel heaters in a year. Then the Rena Cal went wrong. Then I bought a Tronic.

I think that they fail prematurely as they are 'boxed' in. But, hey, thats IMHO.

sub.

ps,

Heater choice seems to be a personal thing, but I like the fact that the Tronics fail 'off' much more than 'on'. I have had a boiled tank before, and I don't want another!

I have the Rio 180 and have had the heater switched off all summer, in fact it is still off & has a reading of 77 (think I converted that right) but we have put our central heating on tonight. When we first set the tank up it took ages to get the heater to the required temp. I think when purchased they must be turned on to full.
Have had no problems since except for when summer began, but I have very big windows in my house & we get the full sun for most of the day in our lounge & dining room.

I think i will go for the Visi Therm heater, i already have this make in my other tank, and you can set max temp, which is cool !!

Thanx guys

77? my temp is consistently 81 so i wouldn't worry too much.... i have a top fin 150w that i got for $12. it may be cheap but so far it's working fine.

Ive just ordered a Visi Therm 200w Heater from e-bay.... (new)

At least i know this make, as i have it in my other tank, and its very consistent...

Thanx for all your replies... Panick over ... !!

Mine's around 81 too, but if a heater suddenly increases it's not a good sign. Saying that I've actually had my Juwel heater in my Vision 180 for over 3 years now :) I like Visitherm a lot though and have a few of them too for other tanks - and if I were to replace my Juwel heater I will buy Visitherm too. You should be fine with a 300 Watt.

I got a 200w as this heats up to 200 Litre, and i only have 180 Litres, so thought this would be ok, less work for the Heater to do, if i got a 300 w its more work for the heater lol

Oh ok, i will go and change my order thanx !!

Just gone back to seller, and asked for him to send me the 250w (max 250 Litres) , as all the heaters are the same price, no matter what size, so this is good :D
