I just went and got 3 male guppies! One is yellow and white, and the other two are orange and black and white (sorry, not specific i know :p). Can anyone think of any names? I was thinking Fish, Chips and Beans... In a few weeks I will get 3 or four more.

When i have had my first guppies, they were ALL males, they got along at first until i added females! they get sooo competative, i have an out numbered tank with 1 more male than female and 2 males always chase eachother, i am probably getting another male...

my advice leave them until you see any aggresion, then add females (at least 1-2 more than males)

Ratio- 1/2-3

1 male for every 2-3 females

I don't really want females, I can't be doing with babies. Do they get on with platies and loaches? I want a loach to help keep the bottom clean and maybe some platies if I can. What about Zebra Danios?
They seem to be OK, mainly hovering around at the moment.

as far as i know they wont' breed with loach since it isn' t a livebearer(I think :dunno: ) I have some swordtail fry and they are really easy to take care of. Some water changes every once and a while and feed them 3-5 times a day normally 3 when i get up when my mom gets home from work and about 8:30 p.m. I am hatching some baby brine shrimp but that is the hardest part setting it up and then getting the shrimp.

how big is your tank? is it the 5 gal you posted about before? if so, i would definitely stay with just the males, definitely not danios!! i have 4 in my 10 gal (mistake made before i discovered this site) and the way they zip around, i know it's too small. they also need to be in schools (at least 5 i was told) anyways, i am planning a 20 gal long for them (minimum) hpe that helps!

It doesn't take a whole lot of time to breed so i would suggest getting a larger tank and some females so that all of the males don't end up killing each other.

all males = bad news = fin rot = fin nipping = death!!!
I'm sorry but thats the biggest pile of rubbish I ever seen.

I have had guppies for a vey very long time, I once had 9 all males in my 15g and they never ever had a fight.

The only prob I have had is with putting a betta in with them.

your guppies will be fine, no need to add females at all, to be honest this will more than likely make them fight. If you do get a bully, get a breeding trap, and seperate the offending male over night. did the trick ofr one of my males.

I just started to get back into guppies, aquired 3 male's and 3 females today, to go with the 2 females i got yesterday, and a suviver from the last lot i had.

There'll be fine with the plattie's, you may see them mating with them but thats normal, and no babys will come of it. The loaches depending what they are, may be ok, but as I say it depends on what type they are. I say no to danio's there to zippy andand will proberly nip the guppies tails.

I thinks that all, if I forgotten anything just ask. :D

I don't want to breed them and I won't be adding females unless there's a rouge in with the males or I get female Platys or a Loach. I only want one loach. I was just wondering about the Danios, they had some in one of the shops for coldwater and are probably the third nicest looking coldwater fish suitable for my tank.

I'm sorry if I misunderstood but if there is no heater in the tank loaches, platies and usualy guppies are not realy an option. Zebra danios can withstand anything IME but they ARE tropical. Guppies do ok in lower temps but not too low. They are just very adaptable fish.

Also, if the tank is under 20 gallons, forget the danios.

If you wan't a loach you'll need to specify what species. Most get too large. Khulie loaches are good for smaller tanks but are realy too much for even a 10 gallon (though that is a possibility).

If your tank is 5 gallons, stick to your guppies. Don't worry about fighting BTW. Males can be a little nasty or territorial to one nother but they rarely cause trouble. Like ferrikins said, if you see trouble isolate the bully in a breeding trap and he'll have changed by morning ;)

Don't the fish that normally get pretty large only grow a certain size depending on the tank size?
