I've got a green severum and over the weekend he had scraped his head on something while I was gone to florida. It had only knocked scales off so I wasn't overly worried about it. Today when I woke up, I saw two white spots on him, one at the front his dorsal fin and one at the front of his anal fin. I don't believe it's ich because the spots are much larger than any ich that I've seen and there's only two spots, not a bunch of them. I don't know if it's related to what happened to his head or not, that still looks fine.

I woke up this morning and he still has the two spots that I told you about, but now he has two more. I was able to get some pictures to help you out a little bit. If you look in the picture, one spot sticks out like a sore thumb, it's about halfway down his dorsal fin. One of the new spots is towards the front of the dorsal fin at the top of the fourth spine. The other one of the new spots is a somwhat small one about an inch or so below his eye by his gill. You really can't see the one on his anal fin in this picture, but it's there. I held a magnifying glass up to the tank and the biggest spot looks somewhat fibrous...almost like mold around the edges.

Before I forget, he isn't acting any differently than he ever has, he still swims around actively, still eats normally, and still displays his fins fully...he isnt clamping them or holding them down at all. I'm stumped by this one...if you guys can help me out, I would appreciate it greatly since he is one of my favorite fish.

Here is a picture of my severum, you can see the two white spots on his dorsal fin...one right up toward the front, and one about halfway down. There is another one that you can't see at the front of his anal fin, and there is also one small one about a half inch or so below his eye by what I guess is a gill slit. Like I said, there were only the two on his fins the other day, but when I woke up this morning, two more had developed. Any help you guys can lend as to what it is and how I can go about treating it would be great.

Now, as far as water parameters and other information go...here is what I have

The severum has been in the tank since February so he is well established.
I added a small silver arowana about two weeks ago, and when I looked a few minutes ago, I noticed he has something white by his gill opening. It looks the same as what the severum has. I originally thought it was only the severum that had it, but when I took close inspection of all my fish just now, I found the arowana had it too. On another note, the arowana, who had been eating very healthily since the day I got him, has lost his appetite...he is on his second day without eating anything. I'm not sure who got it from who really, I think the arowana may be taking it harder because he's so young, only 4 inches long. The severum is much older and more healthy.

Ph - 6.0 it has been 6.0 since I started the tank at the beginning of this year, as well as in the previous tank.
Nitrites - 0
Hardness - 65 ppm
Ammonia - 8.0 I know it is EXTREMELY high, but my test has always given an 8.0 reading on ammonia. I have had the water tested before by my LFS when it showed 8.0 and it was actually at 0. I have not had a chance to get to my LFS, otherwise I would give you a second opinion test.

The test kit I am using is the Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Inc. "Freshwater Master Test Kit" It has the two part ammonia test reagent, which I am told is better about giving accurate readings, but it has never been accurate for me.

For filtration, I have a Fluval 404 canister filter, and a Penguin 330 that I am using for the Bio-wheels and a little extra mechanical filtration. The Bio-wheels have been cultured for almost a year now.

I do small water changes of 2-3 gallons daily or every other day to keep fish waste and uneaten food off of my sand. (I like my sand to look clean all the time) It is a 75 gallon tank, so at that rate, I'm changing about 15-20% a week.

Thanks for reading this extremely long post, I know I'm getting very long winded here, but I wanted to give you everything I know. I really do appreciate any help you give me.

I see a lot of people are helpin me out with this one, I guess I'll have to go about it on my own...

Thank you Wilder, you're the only person who has given me any help as to what it might be. It doesn't really sound like what he has though...he doesn't have any patches, just a couple of spots. I mean, it looks like Ich in the way that it's white spots...but there's nowhere near as many as what I've seen on other fish with Ich...just a few spots and not a bunch.

Fish do sometimes get white spots on them and they clear up with a few water changes, just try that for now, if you notice anything below the dorsal fin happen you will be dealing with saddleback colmnaris, also watch out for flicking and rubbing, good luck.
