My gold severums have laid eggs in the tunnel in my tank, they are on the roof and side of the tunnel. they have gone about blocking the front of the tunnel off with pebbles from the substate that was the floor of the tunnel originaly, they pick the gravel up in there mouths and spit it out at the entrance, making quite a mound, i think that was to stop the oscars getting into the tunnel to eat the eggs, anyway, i only noticed the eggs tonight, how long the eggs have been there i don't know as they have been blocking the tunnel since about monday. i have made a divider and put that in the tank so the oscars can't get to them.

What i am wondering is how long until the eggs hatch? i take it when they hatch i leave them in with the parents? at least until they are big enough to put in another tank, i will have to see what i can sort out, the only spare tank i have got is my 25 ltr hex hospital tank, would this do untill they grew up enough to pass on to other people or lfs or would the teratry be an issue at such a young age?

Any help would be greatly recieved

Thanks

Tom

usually within two days of laying you will notice the egg's hatching....egg's with tails.....then around four day's after there should be free swimming, first they are all over the place until they get there balance stable :good:

Problem is in a community envoiroment id exspect them all to get eaten quick, so either like you say set up another tank ready for when fry are free swimming and move the fry only over, they should be ok, dont bother with moving parent's as they would probally eat the fry after being moved like that

ok, today i think my female severum has been eating a few of the eggs, is this normal? i don't see why she should do this, i have devided the tank, the oscars and plec's are in the other half of the tank, although they can all still see each other is this the cause? is she doing it because she thinks they are in danger?

Any help would be good.

Tom

looked in the tank this morning and the severums have eaten all the eggs over the night. ive taken the divider out now.

Any reason why they would do this?

Thanks
