My Girl Flares!

When I let them see each other last night ( Gabriel and Ylennia ) I noticed that my female flares at him ( I wasn't possitive - but then I noticed not only were her gill flaps flaring , but she was swimming in that awkward looking betta flaring style ) . My male also seemed slightly intimidated - he swam to the back of his tank and stayed there . Will this make it impossible if I attempt to breed ?

female sometimes are aggresive to the males because they want to test there mate a bit (survival of the fitest kind of thing)
