Hi all,
I have setup a fry tank, cycled and everything. My platy has given birth in there and she's now out. I have 20+ fry.

My question is, as it's an Elite 60 Tropical setup, which comes with an Elite Stingray 15 Filter.

Is this filter ok to run with the fry in the tank? Because the moment I got it switched off, and I'm testing water every other day as I don't want sucked up fry!

The water is still fairly clear, but I want to know can I run the filter?

Please advise me on this.

Thanks in advance!

Please advise guys, i dont want my fry dying!

as i understand it ( and how mine is set up) a sponge filter is best for fry because it doesn't create so much suction that the fry cant get away, and it also helps to hold the beneficial bacteria. im sure more experienced people will chime in though.

my fry are in tank with a fluval 4+ and they are a day old and are not bothered by it at all. all swim happly past the filter with no probs

If you are having trouble with water flow pulling in fry, try putting a sponge filter media in front of the flow path. I cut a slit in a filter sponge that was made for an AC filter and slipped the sponge over the inlet tube. Laying on the desk top, the sponge looked like this.

Once in place for about a month it looked like this in my Heterandria formosa tank. Hets have fry about half the size of your platy fry.
