hi there - my platys had some fry and i had a breeding net available and was able to catch two of the little guys this week. i have some gravel and some plastic plants in for the two little fry. yey! they are so so cute and i've seen them go from clear the first day a more orange colouration now, about 3 days later.

my concern is that i put in the liquifry food, but i never see them come to the top to eat and a few hours later i need to sccop the food out. is it safe to assume that a few of the tiny powdered flakes make their way down to the bottom for the fry to eat? are they maybe picking algae off of the plants?

this is my first surviving fry (the first batch of fry were eaten up by the time i got a breeder net for them) and i want to make sure i'm treating them well.

also - how long should they stay in the net before they can be set free with the other platys?

thank you!

im sure they are eating some even if its just a little bit, as for when to let them out, most say when bigger than the biggest mouth in the tank

actually - this afternoon when i put in the food, they both came up to the top an snacked a bit.. lol.

i can't get over how freaking cute they are! :) i wish i'd been able to find/save more than just the two....

wouldnt worry about having only 2 b/c you will have another load to add to them in 3.5 weeks time.

dont worry as they wouldve been eating very small amounts to be still alive, good luck with them :good:

If the lights are too bright, fish may hide away. Room light with no fish tank lights sometimes helps as fish feel less exposed.

that's how i caught the 2nd fry! the first fry was spotted floating up by the mouth of the breeder net and was easy to catch. three days later i found the 2nd fry when i went into the room late at night to get something. all was dark, but when i turned the room light on, i found the 2nd fry hanging out by the breeder net. for a while there, i thought my original fry had gotten out!

these little two are growing visibly each day - i'm so excited! and can't wait for 3.5 weeks for more!
