i have read somewhere that it is because they are VERY comfortable in their home....

well that may be true because when i moved my old fish to my new tank, my clown loaches were schooling! so cute..

but i have been waiting for a while too..but since the last 3 months no more school/shoaling

my 4 sterbai cories don't school/shoal
my 5 clown loach don't school/shoal
even my ZEBRA DANIO don't school or shoal :(

NO schooling/shoaling fish of mine does what they are suppose to do

except for my 10 neons who all got murdered by my ghost shrimp (probably because they were not very comfortable in their tank..shrimps..they kill my neons every 2-3 days, one by one :-( )

so anyone know why? is it really because they are too happy? i mean i am happy if they are happy, but i'll be more happy if they school/shoal :/

Cories don't really shoal, well my Albinos don't, I have three and most of the time they are seperate. Sometimes two of them hang out together but I think its just luck really they don't seem to take much notice of one another, more like bumping into one another, but then Albinos have very poor eye sight. My Neon Tetras don't really shoal ever, I have 8 and most of the time they are in 2s or 3s. Except when the light goes of at night and they shoal for a few minutes then so it must put the wind up them!

:( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

arg, when you look at pictures of rivers, the fish school really nice and beutiful..in the wild..in my tank.. :X

Would I be right in presuming that your new tank is larger than the old one?
If so, the increased space available to the fish will cause them to separate from a shoal, especially if they have lived with the same tank mates and thererfore feel 'safe' with them.
IMO if you put in some new fish you would see them start to group together a bit more, or do what i did..........buy more of the same fish :D I now have approx. 25 - 30 tetras of various types and they play follow-the-leader in and out of the plants and bogwood or just hang around in a bunch.

Don't try and 'force' nature, as you say if the fish are happy then you're happy, right :)

Why is it that fish have to school! My be they just got sick of seeing eachother. they could have decied they needed some "alone time" :)
Fish are complex as well just not on our level and so they behave how they wnat that might mean being alone 4 a while.

:X yup my clown loaches was in a 10 gallon, one for quarintine, 2 because they were on discount and was a fish i wanted on my 55 gallon fish list! :shifty:

but no, only the 5 clown loaches and 2 cories they know, other fish, zebra danio, sparkling gourami, and pleco, but they NEVER school execpt when they are scared..=(

rummy nose are hard as hell to keep imr(easerch) so ..no

i never heard of fish that need alone time period of 3 months

i am almost positive that they school when scared or stressed but i want some more oppinions, so this proves that my 5 shrimps really did murdered my neons :X

My neons always shoal up together and they're just in a 10g with the rams. Every once in a while one will swim off and do it's own thing but usually they are all together.

My cories don't shoal much either. My pandas and 3-lines are starting to hang out with each other, but usually it's 3-4 playing follow the leader, not the whole group.

My rainbowfish shoal...and now one of the Severums is shoaling up with them
