Hi i usually feed my Cichlids 'Hikari Cichlid Gold' (red packet with a Oscar, Festae and Firemouth on the front)

They usually go crazy and eat them all, but the price was putting me off, works out £7 a month (that on top of the rest of my direct debits is steep for fish food)

So i looked for a cheaper alternative, my local watermarque shop had a tub of pellets called 'Cichlid Floaters' apparently good for Malawi and New Worlds...ideal i thought.

They cost me £8.99 for 450g (over double the amount of the hikaris)

But.....

They wont touch them, the only thing i have got them to eat in the last 2 weeks is there weekly treat of Krill/Blood Worm.

We tried to mix them with a bit of Garlic but they still wont touch it.

I'm planning on buying some more Hikaris tomorrow but dont want to waist nearly £10 worth of food, what can i do to get them to eat it?

Carry on srving them till thye et the pellets or bettrr still let them see other fish eat the new pellets so thye will reaalise it's food. some fish tks while, even weeks to dapt to new food which is why I deliberately give all my fish different foods as a mixture so they won't starve if I run out of anything
You can get genuine Hikari cichlid pellets cheaper on Ebay, around £8 for 300g
If you have other fish feed the umwanted cichlid pellets to them..or advertise

You'll probably be able to get them to eat the new pellets if you starve them until they eat.

However, it may be a false economy. Check out the ingredients list of the cheaper pellets. Probably not as good as the Hikari. If you are not able to interpret the difference, then post the two lists up here for us to comment on.
With fish food, you usually get what you pay for. For example, New Life Spectrum is expensive, but one glance at the ingredients list shows that is such a high quality food.

If I were you I'd stick with the Hikari Gold and do as was suggested, try and source a cheap bulk purchase on ebay.

I just got some Hikaris again and they ate them in seconds, so they must just hate the cheapeys lol
