Hey, remember that thread I made asking for input for a searchable fish database? Well, I tweeked the design based on your useful input, and have 30 fish in it now. I am going through the catfish section in the fish profile section of this site. I'll be registering a URL for it soon. When I at least get the catfish section done and tweak another couple things, I'll go public with the URL.

I hope you all can find it usefull. I intend on adding fish to it as my time permits. It takes me 10-20 minutes per fish though, because I like to find 2-3 sites per fish, to make sure I have good information. It wont be perfect, but Im doing my best.

I found a program that helped me make a powerful search page for it. You can search any and all fields. You can then sort the results by any fields. Their are many fields, including common names, scientific name, family, min tank size, temps, PH range, fish temperment, etc etc etc.

I remember your thread. I didn't look all the way through it but I'm excited to see the finished product. I think the most valuable thing you can put with each fish is a short list of potential or ideal tankmates, and perhaps some examples of unsuitable tank mates too. keep up the good work. Each thing you do may prevent another 100 people from having to do it. Thanks.

Thanks for the suggestion. I am keeping a "wish list" of things I might add in the future. I only have 4 fields that I am not using, so I'll have to choose their purpose wisely. Well, actually, I am not using my 4 Kh and Gh min/max fields either.

Thanks for the support. When I post the URL in about a week, it will probable only have about 40 fish in it, mostly catfish. I'll go through the other categories in our fish index and hopefully get them all in there eventually.

You better give tff credit for helping you out with the fish index and responses :p
Good Luck, though and i look forward to the finished result. I bet it will help people in tff :)

Every fish has a field with a URL, that points to its entry in the fish index on this site, so I suppose that implicitly gives credit where credit is due.

If I start adding fish that are not in the fish index here, then I'll have to start putting in other sites for those entries. I would create my own entries in the fish index, but the rules there seem pretty clear - only add an entry if you own the fish, don't just copy info from other sites.
