I've decided to put my convict project on hold for the time being. I decided to get a betta. He's in another tank atm but I plan to rehome it in my 29. These can be mixed with other fish? Just not another mele betta. I have a purple one, I just got it. I'd like to put it in a community set up. Maybe with some other non fin nipping fish.

Could I mix it with these?

Guppies
Swordtails
Mollies
Pentazona Barbs

Help me out name me a few more. Keep in mind they have to go in a 29 gallon.

Thanks

How often should I feed it? Once every three days etc?

It's OK that it will be rehomed to a 29 gal. isn't it? I haven't seen much online about keeping them in anything larger than a 10?

I don't believe that he'll do very well with any of the fish you've listed...especially the guppies. Their long colorful fins create a male-betta like appearance and he'll attack them. Bettas really do great when left alone. Get him a small 2 gallon tank or so, and do what you're wanting with your 29 gallon. :)

I think all those will be fine with a good temperment betta. Unless he's very aggressive (like my plakat was), you should be okay.

Personally, I would stock the tank in layers. Also, I would stick with only one group of livebearers; that way, you can have a nicer, bigger group instead of two+ small groups.

Upper: the betta :)
Middle/Upper: 5 swordtails -or- 5 platies (I like these better than guppies and they're hardier IMO.)
Middle: 6 cherry barbs -or- 6 pentazona barbs
Bottom: 5 cories -or- 5 small loaches

Just take your time stocking it; don't do it all at once.

A Betta won't stay at the upper level of the tank, he will be all over. I wouldn't keep a Betta with anything its size and fish with long fins. I have successfully (peacefully) kept a male Betta with a few Neon Tetras and Corys. Keep in mind that a group of Tetras will nip at the fins of Bettas, eventually destroying his fins. Bettas are solitary fish, they will thrive and be happy alone. It is up to you whether you want to take the risk of having an injured or dead fish.

Why would you only feed you Betta once every couple days? Give him a few pellets twice a day and give him treats once or twice a week. Treats can include bloodworms, brine shrimp, daphnia. It is recommended to fast him one whole day once a week.

Are Danios Glofish?

Could this work

Betta
Glofish
Mollies
cherry barbs
cories

i wouldnt keep bettas with tetras barbs or livebearers as i have had bad experience with them and this was with females.
so if you do go ahead make sure you have a spare tank just incase :good:

Does a betta enjoy a plamted tank? Live or fake?

Can I get some suggestions as to what I can put with them.

Do bettas jump?

woah! never be under the impression you can keep a betta with barbs

depending on the teperament of you fish you may get away with some LB but i would advise against it. He will be happier and more active on his own in a 2 gal tank, they don't like company unless company stays WELL out of the way. If you have to have something go with the cory.

Bettas love plants, live its best but fake is ok as long as they are the silk kind

Perhaps I'll just rehome it, I think I'll just buy a 2 or 3 gallon tank. Now I see why they are always in a cup and not in a big tank. There is nothing compatible with them.

It's not true that there's nothing compatible with them. It's just that the fish you're wanting aren't compatible with them. Anyhow, he'll be happier in a tank on his own. :good:
