Ok, 9 weeks in. I got a guppy, 2 corys and a sucking loach. I got my test kit and these are my results.

Amonia 0.25 ppm
Nitrite 1.0 ppm
Nitrate 40 ppm

They were all on zero b4 i added my 3 new fish 1 week ago.

Cheers,

Dan

the ammonia spike might be from adding new fish. I would do a water change and then test a few hours later.
I'm not sure but isn't your nitrate kinda high.
That one is so annoying cause it gets high pretty fast. and you have to do water changes to lower it.

That would be my guess. Depending on tank/filter size you may have to add fish more slowly than that. Was it a fishless cycle? Did you continue to add ammonia between the time you were finished with the cycle to the time when you got fish?

Keep up with the waterchanges and your bacteria will rebound pretty quickly.

No wasn't a fishless cycle. I never heard of it before i already had the initial fish. I think i added to many fish at the same time. 1 to 5 is alot i guess. Well I'm doing a 20% water change now. Hopefully that will bring the levels down.

Ok i just done a 20% water change, my results are now

Ammonia - 0 ppm
Nitrite - 0.50 ppm
Nitrate - 20 ppm

Should i do another 20% Change tomorrow or leave it to it.

Cheers for all the help so far, i know this topic gets thrashed to death.

Dan

Guppys arent shoaling fish. They will breed like crazy if put together however.

Advise from your LFS im guessing?

geoff is right, guppies arent necessarily shoaling fish, but a group of them do tend to look stunning. males only though.
