My First Fry Are All Gone

I am devastated, my first fry have ALL gone, does it get any easier

Yesterday thought the Platy female was pregers and ready to go. Couldn't really say for sure though, the black square mark looked kind of brown, so thought I had more time.

Came down this morning there was only one fry. Tried to rescue it but they scoot at speed and it disappeared, couldn't find it anywhere. Saw it again later in the morning, but the same again, it disappeared. I have a fair amount of plants, so I thought it might survive, but we have not seen it since.

It has been devoured I am sure, by that mean Angel. So it will pay for it's deeds. I went out and purchased a 37G tank and I will put it in there, with a few others of it's kind, and a pleco and a loach or 2, That'll teach it!

It is hard to now for sure if it was eaten. More plant's= better chance of survival.

I had the same problem my 1st load of fry were eaten by the seemingly harmless Angel and my tank has plenty of plants. The next batch of fry (Swordtail Platy crossbreed) which only had 3 individuals and sadly one was weak and died but the other 2 survived then they produced there own fry of which 1 still survives with a new partner .

Unfortunately,
1st time breeding always seems to be unlcuky. However you could try distracting the angel if he is watching fry. But unfortunately your fry may have been eaten.

One of my fish had fry without me even knowing, I was looking in my tank and I saw a little thing in the plants. It was the only on left. Having plants makes it a whole lots easier.

Well, it"s still not shown up, so I have to assume it's had it.

Never mind, got a new tank, got some great idea's, and I will be able to take the fry eaters out.

I feel for you!!!!

My first few batches of fry were gone like that!!! I had to pay better attention to the females and put them into a breeder box to drop. Otherwise all my fry were eaten. Now I have a fry tank with about 35 platy fry about a month old!!!

I hope you find it! I hate when I can't keep track of them. Those little guys blend in so well! It takes me 20 minutes sometimes to catch just one! LOL

fry eaters like what?
every fish eats fry their own or another fishes they reli dont care
i had a female platy about 3 inched was a jumbo and it eat all of its fry as it was in a net and i was at work come home they had all gone,mollies eat fry
guppies eat fry
the list is endless the fish reli dont care its not like the mother sticks around to look after them any way thats the purpose of nets and traps sorry to upsette and all that but a more planted tank the better, live plants are best,

Don't know if you noticed but this thread was 5 months ago Tink. Small cories and endlers are about all I have found that don't actively persue fry to eat them. That does not mean that they are safe in the tank with fry, it just means amny of the fry will survive.

They probably are all in there somewhere. I had a mom that gave birth and I had no idea. My tank was planted so well I couldn't tell they were there until I cleaned it. I doubt the lil guy was eaten.

bet its in there somwhere, but if you cant see it neither can the other fish, so thats good....love the way you use the naughty angel as an excuse to buy another tank been there done it got the t-shirt
