Yesterday i rescued my first fish! Somebody i work with had just left their tank to its own devices and was going to return the remaining fish to the pet shop. But i offered to rescue them.
When i went round to their house i found a 20 litre tank with 1 leopard danio, 1 zebra danio, 1 penguin tetra and two angel fish lurking amidst the green water! I caught the two danios and tetra with ease (its not like they had much room to swim away) but when i came to the angels i found that they were too big to fit in the net that i had been given. After mcuh deliberation over whether to catch them by hand or cup i found it was easier to guide them in to the bag.
The small fish are now in my dads 100 litre community and the angels in with my 300 litre cichlid tank.
I am going to go home and give them their first feed of bloodworm which will be a treat!

Anyway i just thought i would share my good deed! :)

good save! great job re-homing them lol ur friend needs to not keep fish

You didn't bother to quarinteen them or let them slowly adapt you your tank water?

I know, Still a good job on rescuing them. I just am giving you some pointers for next time you do it :good:

lol the take home baggies for the fish at my lfs read" place this bag with the fish in it for fifteen minutes to equalise temp. open the bag and net the fish out and place it in the aquarium making sure that you get little amt. of baggie water int he tank" can you see the mistake?

I am well aware of the acclimatisation procedure but i have never acclimatised fish in such a manner. And i have never had any problems. And unfortunately i have no room for a quarantine tank at the moment. Anyway i think that despite my obvious 'mistakes' the fish have a home 10x better than there previous residence. Thanks for the help!

Good job FroggFrogg! They sure sound like they are going to be a lot better cared for. Now all you have to do is make sure your friend steers clear of fish in the future! :)

Yea i think she is now getting rid of the tank..maybe to me. Its small size means i may be able to squeeze it in under my main tank for quarantine. She told me that the tank once housed 30 fish. When she told me that i just grabbed the fish and ran!

Cool! Sounds like it'd make a good quarantine/fry tank.

God... 30 fish! Poor things. At least they have a good home now though.
