My First Betta

I got my first betta today! I named him James, lol, don't know why. He has his very own 5 gallon tank which he seems to be having lots of fun exploring! Here's a couple of pics:

So far he's eaten one pellet (lol, exciting hey?) and he's flared at his reflection! He sure looks scary all flared up, mr tough guy!

I just have a question, see that pale patch on his belly? Is that normal or should i be worried about that?
