My First Betta - Pics!

Well I've just got one today, put it in with 5 neon tetras and 2 make red dwarf gourami's, one of the gourami's seemed to be pestering him at first, but now he's left him alone and they are all getting along fine, gonna keep an eye on them tho and have a seperate tank ready for the betta if he gets a bit aggressive - but if all goes well I'll put some piccies up tommorrow. He's a lovely red one and I've called him Torres

Hi and welcome to the forum and congradulations on your new betta! If i were you id move him to his own tank bettas and neons arn't a good mix the neons are likely to nip his fins to shreds and/or hel fight back killing your other fish. I'm not an expert but i think thats the general rule. He should be very happy in a little 5 gal of his own. Good luck with him anyway.

id worry about the neons nipping him and he and the gouramis fighting. glad youve got a backup plan in case things go awry.

ohhhh...he's handsome. i have a soft spot for the red ones (my first betta is red). he looks in great condition. his fins are even growing(you can tell by the clearish bits on the ends)...
as previously mentioned just keep an eye on everyone. he is nice!!!

the neon tetras dont seem to be bothering him, and he is leaving all the others alone, one of the two gouramis was pestering him yesterday, but I think the fighter gave him a little shove and so now the gourami has left him alone haha

He's lovely enjoy your new boy! Bettas are such a pleasure to own. As a general rule, because gouramis and bettas are from the same "family", it can cause aggression. Please watch them carefully - I know you say you can't see fighting happening, but you could wake up to find half the bettas fins missing

Bettas and gouramis can have some aggression problems because they're both anabantoids.
However, i keep a betta and a pearl gourami together just fine.
They actually act like they're bff's!

The neons will more than likely pose a problem though. They will almost inevitably nip your betta's fins to shreds along with stressing out your slow moving boy. I had that problem with a few zebra danios once.
