My First Aquatic Plant

i have just brought 2 java ferns.i have no driftwood but can i attach them to ornaments and rocks??
also can i use cotton as thats all i have?
do i tie the whole root??

you can attach it to rocks

cotton should be ok as long as it is dye free (just to be safe)

you just need to tie it enough so that it stays in place, then hopefully the roots will take hold on the object.
