Bought a secondhand tank recently with an external fluval 405 (thought I'd got a bargain) :shifty:
Unfortunatel yeserday the fluval died
Thought at first it needed a new impeller but found it was grooved inside the impeller housing - LFS with a smile informed me it was dead
as i have major plans and fish in situ I had to buy a new 405 :shout: :shout:
Problem is
I have transferred the media from the old filter to the new and carried on
I have tested the water parameters tonight and the readings are as follows
ammonia 0.25
nitrite 0
nitrate 40

Tank is 180L and is occupied by 1 x angel fish 4" and 7/8 adult size apple snails.
Have done a 30% water change just now.
what reasons do you think the results are like this ?? and what do you recommend ??
Do these results suggest I am going through another cycle ?
cheers Mark

Id say you lost a bit of bacteria that was on the filter housing, just do water changes and all will be well in a couple of days.

I actually used the old cannister but fitted the new motor head to it
I did though clean the media with tank water as it was rather clogged so you think all will be well sooner rather than later ??
