This is my newest bargain tank! I have set myself a challenge by doing a dutch aquascape, i have also started a journal in the planted section for those who don't venture over there. Heres a few pics, it's far from finished as the plants need to grow and there needs to be a lot of chopping to do. Wish me luck!

I always like the natural look,

Dutch aquascape?

Looks nice, just wondered what the 'definition' of a dutch aquascape would be? I've never heard of one before :)

cheers peeps, have a read of this is you're not sure what 'dutch' style of tank is. http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/topic/328059-basics-in-aquascaping/

I haven't stuck to the rules per-say, as its only 20ltr. I have also worked it from top left hand corner to bottom right hand corner. Like i say there is a lot of growing to to and a lot of trimming.

thats going to look fantastic when those plants fill out ian :good:

thanks Mark, thats the plan. :good: BTW nice Oscars!

Very very nice. I can see that is going to mature into a stunned once it's grow and been pruned. How's the other little tank comming on.

thanks again Mark.

Alex, the other tank is now in the boy's bedroom. I have had to buy some more Embers though. :good:

here a couple of interesting photo's i took today. The first one is as soon as the light comes on...

as you can see the plants are closed up.

this was taken an hour ago, and the lights have been on for 2 hours

the plants are now getting everything they can!

wow , thats amazing how those plants close up when its dark. i mean you can understand the reasopn for opening up to get more light , but why do they close up? does it help them conserve nutrients or something?

It's to do with the uptake of C02, at night there is no need to take up C02 so they will close up, in the day they obviously need as much C02 out of the water as possible. This is why they will open up. It tends to be more stemmed plants than broad leaved plants, i'm not sure whether its got anything to do with leaf size?
