So, I've got it all planned. I've considered my dream tank for a long time, and I've finally decided on it -

1 x oscar
2 x JD or Red Devils
2 x Blood Parrots
1x tiger plec
5 x clown loach (bigger than the oscars mouth)

filtered via a fluval 4 internal, and a fluval 404 external

I'd want to ideally have all the fish from young (excluding the clowns, they'd have to be a bit bigger), but what sort of tank size am I looking at for these guys? I've got a numbe rin my head, but before I offer it up, I'd see what you guys reckoned.

It'll be a while before I get it mind you...

75g preferably 100g I reckon. Sounds like a lovely mix of fish

Really that small?

This sounds a lot more do able than I thought if thats right...

I'd say 125 gallon minimum. Also dont think there will be anyway of keeping RD's with the other fish, so I would scrap that idea. The rest of the first 'should' be ok.

This is more like it.

On another forum someone said RD's would be alright with other big cichlids. But I mean, I'll stick with JD's. I saw some RD's yesterday in an LFS, with their fry, and they looked amazing.

I can live without them though, hence them being a possiblity and not guaranteed.

Well the clowns alone are going to need atleast 125 gallons *not all to themselves, as a minimum tank* because they get to 12 inches and need to be kept in shoals.

What kind of tiger plec are you talking about? if its the one im thinking of it will get eaten, as they dont get much bigger than 5 inches if that.

I would say shoot for like 150 gallons or something

I had in my head 640 litres, which is 170 gallons. I saw one in maidenhead aquatics for £1000, including stand and filter, and light etc. Good price? I'm not looking to do this soon, but, one day definitely.

I've only ever seen pics of tiger plecs on their own, and they looked big enough to look after themselves. I'm definitely heading for some kind of plec...

So you want two pairs of large cichlids plus the lone Oscar? If you don't offer plenty of space you're going to run into serious problems. I would say 150 gallons is the absolute minimum, and if you choose Red Devils over JD's, make that 240. I'd sure hate to be an Oscar in between two spawning pairs of cichlids though!

You couldn't do that because you couldn't keep a pair of males together the would constinetly fight especially red devil males
