Hi, how long does it take to cycle my tank if i:

squeeze 1 of my 240 litre sponges media into a bowl and mop it up with my new filter sponges
squeeze 1 of my 240 litre sponges media into a bowl and pour it into the 100 litre
add 9.5% ammonia solution
use the "Add & Wait" method

thanks, my 100 litre is being used for a krib breeding pair

I used mature sponges in 2 of my filters on my tank and a month later im still cycling. I also use the add and wait method and yep im still adding and still waiting.
I think that there is an element of luck involved because I have read reports of some people getting really quick results from using mature media.

Can you not spare a bit of your mature media to help the new filter along? also I think you are better squeezing the mature sponge directly into the new sponge/filter.

Regarding your question on time I think its a bit of an unknown.

I just clean a good sized filter in my new tank and usually get a fully cycled filter within a week. I have never tried squeezing into a bowl and mopping it up with a new filter. That sort of appeals to me but is something that I have never tried. Can you possibly get all the filter cleaning done and just end up with one bowl like that? I know that there is no way I could clean a filter with just a bowl so I use the whole tank while the new filter is running on it. I just did one tonight and will probably do another in the same tank because the new filter is in a large tank and the filters that need cleaning are on small tanks.
