I recently compiled many of my smaller 15-18g communities into a 6' tank so I moved my 15g brackish tank onto the old tropical community cabinet. In doing so I did a near 100% water change and my chromide pair has laid 25-30 egg sacs on the side of their cave. I'm so happy, I bought them as juvies and this is their first attempt :D .
(looks like I can't post pictures here for some reason, they're going in members aquarium pics)

how strange! i changed from a 30 to a 55g tank recently and my chromides spawned this week too!!! Must be like you say the big water change prompts it. They were both looking after the eggs a coupole of days ago, but now the male is chasing the female away from them and looking after them by himself.

good luck with the hatching!! From what i've read elsewhere it should be about 5-6 days before they hatch so i'm expecting wigglers by the weekend

congratulations , both of you .

Chromides make excellent caring parents , both male and female will take turns guarding eggs , then the same with the fry .

good luck

first wigglers appeared on Friday evening, and they were pretty much all off the rock by saturday morning. The parents are both doing a great job of looking after them now - they've moved pits a couple of times but are keeping everything else well away.

Lucky - any idea at what stage is it gonna be ok to move the fry away from the parents into a breeding net? I don't want to stress the parents too much, but on the other hand theyre in a community tank with puffers so i dont want all of the fry to become lunch (though ive accepted its inevitable that some will be :X ) I wanted to move at least some of the fry into a net to grow them on a bit.

well, i'm on my second batch of wigglers now!! unfortunately the first lot met an unfortunate end due to the cannister filter - the parents moved pits to one directly underneath the filter inlet pipe and I arrived home from a weekend away to see the last one or two sucked up the pipe :( I emptied the filter and saved a few dozen, but the parents ignored them when i put them back in the tank and they all disappeared :(

anyway i've now taken about a foot off the inlet pipe on the filter, so its a lot nearer the top of the tank; and the second batch of wigglers are now about 5 days old. Keeping my fingers crossed that these ones will fare a bit better

lenna - how are yours doing now?
