Hey guys!

Just wanted to thank you all for the wonderful information out here. I just wanted to post a pic of sushi in his home :)

Post pictures of your fishes here as well if you like...and let me know if I can change something in my tank. He loves the castle and stares at everything!! i love him.

Is that a hermit crab tank?

Is there a filter on it? you should probably get one if you dont. Maybe take out the seashells/ pick a theme. I guarantee that if you pick a theme it will look 10x better. :)

click my baby dragons :) lol

No it's not a hermit crab tank, it's too early for me too start experimenting with different species :shifty:

I dont have a filter, but I do water changes every other day 25%. And I just tested the water, and everything seems fine :)

Any ideas on themes?

I recommend a filter, but if you're doing frequent water changes and monitoring water quality it shouldn't be a huge issue.

Personally I recommend painting the back of your tank black, a commercial oil based paint is best... You wouldn't believe the difference it makes in a tank. :D
Check my post on the progression of my tank when I revamped it, it could spark some ideas for you, and you can see the difference the background made.

OOOO...I'm loving the painted background, It brings out the colours of the tank!......

Hmmmm I don't know if i should remove the castle...feel like it's just there.....but I wouldn't really want a castle theme.....Although he LOVES it! because the castle has three to four holes it can swim in and out of.....

Once I go around.....i'll probably catch on to some things that will look good...

Although, I was always intrigued by the drift wood...Can you put any kind of wood? Do you usually get it from the store..or mother nature? :p

I've become a huge fan of natural tanks. I find them the most interesting. Plus growing aquatic plants is always really fun (though it can feel like such a pain sometimes!!!)

If you want something for him to swim under/through, you can silicone rocks together and make a bridge-like structure. Also broken terracotta pots are great hiding spots for bettas.

As for driftwood, I purchased my piece of mopani wood at a store, but I have been told if you find driftwood from freshwater areas and boil them that works just as well. That will probably be what I will do for my 10gal tank I will be starting to set up in about 2 weeks, since driftwood is pricey when bought in stores.

what do you need for live plants? do you just stick em in there...or do you need stuff like a filter, fertilizer and what not..

When I planted them I gave them root tabs which stimulate growth... I'm about to switch them over to Excel I think, which is a liquid fert. Without some sort of fertilizer they grow slowly and sometimes have problems establishing themselves in the beginning.

I personally LOVE the castle. My betta has a fake tree trunk with 5 different holes. He has had it for 2-2.5 months now and STILL is not tired of swimming in and out of the holes ....

Galanta ive seen a picture of your tank on flickr, the wood with holes in looks incredibily amazing!
My betta sleeps on floating elodea, i woke up at 4 this morning and i cpuldnt get to sleep, to see him asleep on his elodea, he was just lay their not moving, it gives him a little rest, also im receiving some wisteria off a nice guy on this site.
Java ferns and amazon swords are good for bettas to have a rest and their easy to maintain, i dont know much about plants but i plan on getting some root tabs! x :)

Galanta,

Your bowl is so NICE! I love the wooden thing...If only i had something like that, I would remove the castle then.

I do like a more natural feel to the tank, and I'm sure he would love it too...He goes through the tiniest holes! On the left side of the tank, the shell, he would go through that little space....

And haha, he tried to eat his own poo yesterday, I couldn't find any when I was cleaning but he found it for me :good: and then I removed it, what a silly boy.
