My Blue Ribbon Eel eats! (pics and video)

This is the pics-only post; my other post in Marine And Reef Chit Chat has the story and hi-res video links.

Well I wanted to wait to write this until I was sure that my blue ribbon would live. It's been about eight months now, so I think it's time to tell my experiences so other will have the best chance with their blue ribbons. I'll also put videos on Google Video, YouTube, and Putfile (just search for "blue ribbon eel"). All pics and video were taken after six months in the tank...

That's an unbelievable setup you have there. :hyper: Easily the most amazing tank I've ever seen. Dendronepthya... Rhinomuraena... Phostus... Gorgonians... Drum... Lookdown... If I could make a tank half that good I'd be set. Thank you for sharing this incredible sight with us. :hyper: I wish you luck on maintaining the health of the Moray.

Edited to tone down excitement of post.

Well the pipe is two inches wide, but the sand is only three inches deep. So the pipe only goes down a bit and then turns (see the pics).

dude omfg thats sick... what siz e tank is that..... that thing is huge to..

joejoehead: It's a 90. Glad you like it.

demonmagus: Well the videos are real good at showing off the eel's movements... check them out.

kpintheshed: I currently feed the BR eel frozen silversides. But he started out on live guppies, then live goldfish, then frozen goldfish.

Thanks. A few of the books I've read say they only grow to 12" in aquaria.

Which books are they? I have never seen the max size listed so low. I can't recall ever seeing one that small. Most come in around 18" for sale as black juveniles. Are you sure you don't have it confused with another moray, or possibly one of the FW spiney "eels"?

SantaMonica,

At 3 foot that eel must be starting to get near the female changeover size. Would be great if you could take pics of the eel as it changes to completely yellow.

Well if he does start to change colors, I will take pics.

Mojodex... thanks.
