hey guys i have a 1 1/2 gallon tank the water temp is well requlated the pump is just a standard. about three weeks ago we set the tank up we waited a week then got 4 fish a zebra fish 2 gold fish and then my black mollie, and 5 ghost shrimp. one of the gold fish died of shock we think but the other and the zebra were killed by my mollie. he would chase them around biting them, they have been dead for about 4 days now,but about 2 days ago my mollie began getting these white bumps that look like peeling scales, it started on his stomach but is now all over his body. im really worried about the little guy he has always seemed aggitated so im not sure whats up. we took the ghost shrimp out of the tank yesterday but there is no diffrence in him today. could this be a stress problem? or could he just be lonely? i dont want to get him company (2 female mollies)if it will make it worse or kill the other mollies. our kitchen is naturaly lit during the day so we dont turn the tank light on till 6ish and we turn it off before we go to bed at 930ish, could this be the problem?

Your problems will be caused by poor water, as your tank isn't 'cycled' (that means your filter doesn't have the good bacteria that eat the fish's wastes and stops it poisoning them).

You need to be changing a lot of the water to get rid of the toxic substances (ammonia and nitrite). Switch all the electrics off, drain the water down so your fish has just enough water left to swim upright and then refill with warmed, dechlorinated water.

You need to do this every day for the for the next few weeks, but honestly a 1 1/2 gallon tank is not suitable for keeping any kind of fish in, it's just too small. You need a 10 gallon tank for a molly, as they can actually grow quite big (four inches or so).

I feel I should warn you that your molly may not make it, as it may already have been too damaged by the toxins to survive.

We have an excellent beginner's section (the link is in my sig) which is full of articles that will be of great help to you as a newcomer to the hobby.

Oh, and :hi: to the forum, btw :)
