Can somebody please help me?

I am fairly new to this and have recently upgraded from a very small 22L tropical tank to a 60L tropical tank.

The tank has been up and running for approx 4 months and all was fine until i introduced 4 neon tetras and 2 mollies (one dalmation and one black) approx 2-3 weeks ago.

One of the mollies died the following day but as there was no obvious sign of disease i put this down to stress. My local seller gave me a new one and all was fine for approx 2 weeks.

One of my white cloud mountain minnows had a white growth on its nose which remained the same size for 8 months and did not appear to be causing any distress. However, within a week of putting in the new fish this started to grow and it spread to one of the others. I tried fungus and fin rot treatment to no avail. The next to die was my sucking loach, then 3 of the 4 new tetras, then a peppered cory. Oh, also one of my cardinal tetras.

I have done frequent water changes and have had no more deaths but yesterday i noticed one of my 3 year old Zebra Danios (given to me when i started my 1st tank) acting very strange. Today, he has two thin white strands coming from his mouth (looks like barbels) and one of his gills is very red and bloody. He has been darting around the tank but now he is hovering at the top. He is in an isolation tank with a dose of fin rot and fungus control but i fear the worst. I have also just noticed my black molly spinning round and round (barrel rolls) and he/she appears to have a slight bit of white around one of her eyes. She is eating but is lying on the bottom most of the time under a rock.

What is going on with my tank? I thought i was doing really well and i feel so bad for these little guys.

Can somebody please help???

I have been advised to add a fungus treatment - any ideas which one? I have a Tetra aqua art aquarium and use all tetra products.

what fish did you have in the tank at the same time before they started dying off?

I would guess that your main tank is infested with fungus of some sort so treat the whole tank for this....

I had 4 banded rainbows, 2 sucking loaches, 2 peppered corys, 2 glowlight tetras, 1 cardinal tetra, 2 serpae tetra and 2 neon tetras.

There appear to be many different treatments out there - i have added fin rot and fungus control (i removed the carbon first) but i am not sure how long i leave this in for etc...
Also, with the carbon out, does the tank deteriorate?

I would recommend setting up you old tank as a hospital tank to treat your fish, remember to keep same water conditions as old tank chemistry temp and so. Very important to keep water conditions as same as possible where ever your fish may be.

Also use your old tank as a quarantine tank to watch new fish for a few weeks 2 or so before adding them to the new tank. Remember as well to remove all carbon/chemical filter systems they will remove the medicine.

Edit: to come to think of it, how is your water? Have you been doing regular water changes have you tested for everything? Ammonia, nitrite and nitrate and ph?

By the sounds of it a community disease of some kind, got in.

Remember when adding new fish, float the bag for them to get used to the water temp as well as adding water from the main tank every now and then to get them used to the ph of your tank. Before adding them to the main tank. Should help lower stress.

yup, most important, what are water stats for ammonia, pH, nitrite and nitrate?

the molly doing barrel rolls probably has swimbladder problems, these are often a secondary infection caused by a previous problem, I'm sorry to say but once it gets to this stage it is not often curable and highly likely that the fish will die. You may want to consider euthanaising the fish to put it out of it's misery now rather than let it suffer.

The danio sounds like a possible parasite problem although not sure what.

I think you would be best putting up a post in the emergencies section about this, generally the people who know most about diseases and treatments will look in there.

Hi,

Thanks for your advice - i have put a post in the emergency section
