I got two bettas on monday, I have never owned any other kind of fish before.. So I bought a double little tank for them. My red one flared but my blue-orange one wouldn't. on tuesday I went out and got another tank in which I put in aquarium salt, bottled water, equlizer, and betta first aid kit medicine which turned the water blue.

Well my blue-orange betta finally flared and underneath its gills it looks like openings going straight into its flesh.. it's complete pink and flesh looking. There is no black on his gills. Is that normal.. or is there something wrong with his gills? He's also not eating his pallets and neither is the red one.. However they did eat the blood worms I gave them. The blue-orange one spits out his pallets.

ps.ALL of it!
if u still have any questions post here :)
by the way if u are looking for me to give u advice here it is:
put the fish out of the medicine water or he will die, some bettas flare some don't.also i have found that most bettas will not flare are night(they must be lazy lol)and yes you ARE supposed to se the flesh behind the gills.and about the pellets, just starve them for a day or two, then they'll eat :good:

since u r new wto bettas, post a pic of them so we can give u a diegnosis of them
also welcome to the forum!!!

Thank you I was getting so worried :D.

I took some pictures, sorry about the quality but all I have is my cell phone. There's also a picture of the set up I have them in on my desk so tell me if I'm doing something wrong. I can't get bigger tanks for them though because these are all that will fit in my dorm room. You can't see the colors that well on them because of the medicine in the water. http://www.uskoi.com/betta_revive.htm is what I put in there. The guy at walmart said even if they're not sick it's not a bad thing to put it in the water anyway. The water they were in walmart was also blue so I'm not sure if they put that in it as well. The red one's very dark and bright, and the blue orange is very pale with a slightly grayish font and head.
