Literally just bought it from Petsworld and put it in the fish tank and when i put her in it sort of dropped to the bottom then just swam about a little bit, got inbetween the rocks and just layed there..

Here is a video:

(Ps, sorry for the poor video quality! i had my camera up the wrong way so it is very vertical and had to compress i for youtube -_-)

Now right at the end of that video you see him sort of "lay" on the rock well he hasbasicly done this 90% of the time he is in that tank, he goes inbetween the rocks at the bottom and i am not sure if he just sits in the cracks or swims about or what. That recording was basicly the first time i saw him swim about after 2 hours of being in there.

Never had a betta so not sure if this is typical behaviour or i have just got an iffy one? Any advice for a newbie. Cheers :D

Maybe he's still just adjusting to his new environment. As long as your water parameters are correct, you have nothing to worry about. Some people tend to quarantine their newly-bought fish prior to adding them to the aquarium. Hopefully, you didn't get him when he's ill.

Just have a close eye on your aquarium in case anything dodgy occurs. Look for symptoms and don't hesitate to post them here. Surely, there's a lot of people who'd be glad to help you :)

I would agree he is probably just adjusting to the new environment, that doesn't look too out of the ordinary to me. Not knowing where your water current is, it seems like he is fighting a current and a bit freaked by the other fish. Keep in mind too that bettas like to rest on things. You'll see in stores that they have "betta hammocks" that are fabric leaves that suction to the walls of the tank. Mine would always lay on leaves on the biggest plant in the tank. It is a bit odd that he would rest as much as you say when he should be exploring/hiding. How long did the acclimation process take and is it gasping at all? Maybe he just needed more time to adjust to your water. Do a water test/partial change if necessary and keep an eye on him.
