I finally decided to start keeping a journal since so much is going on with my fishes.
Since the first time I posted pics... Okasan, (My momma fish) died. When I was out of town, the heater somehow came loose, and when my mom (who was watching the tank) put it back up, she put it up in a place where Okasan got trapped behind it and must not have been able to get out.
Also when I got back, my tank was infested with Ick. Especially on my molly... but also on Ein, Jet and Spike: My black neon tetras.
I also came home to a snail infestation. I don't know if my snail Gary the snail (named after Spongebob's pet. lol I know. I was out of names.) gave birth... or if they came with the plants and are now just big enough to see.
I treated the ick tank by raising the temp slightly and using 1 tbsp of salt per 5 gallons. It worked practically over night. I'm going to wait a few more days before I jump for joy and do another water change... but it seems they're ickless at the moment.
the one on top, Sakura, had big ick spots all over her tail, Naruto (the sailfin) had fewer spots, but he had them on his tail also. As you can see, they're gone.
Six pack never got ick spots thankfully. So they are as healthy as ever. It's fun to watch X-ray bellies eat. the shiny one swimming out of the picture, the shiny belly and spot on his butt is from the flash. he normally doesn't look like that. lol
Spike, Ein and Jet got a few ick spots on them... but I don't see any evidence of spots anymore.
In my Betta tank, a little action has been going on.
his colors are still pretty amazing. I tried feeding Genesis a few of these freeze dried tube worms today, but he still enjoys his bloodworms more. I may try some baby brine shrimp tomorrow.
Here's my Gary the snail. Some may say he's gross, but I think he's kinda kawaii. (cute)
Not sure if these are Gary's babies, or if they came on the live plants I added to the tank... I don't have the heart to let them die, so I'm trying to coax them to go onto a peice of lettuce so I can put them in a separate smaller tank not in use.
the lettuce didn't work last night... so if it doesn't work tonight, once my silk plants come in I'm going to take out the plants (cause they're mostly attached to them) and plant them in the snail tank, though I'll leave a few snails in the tank.
I'm iffy about if I'm going to go back to silk plants or get more live ones. I started the live plants because I was told they'd help cut down on green algae... but I have the same results with regular water changes, plus the snail has been helping. So we'll see.
anyway. That's where it is now.
