well i decided to start up a diary a while back on some dif. forums.... so i will update quickly then show you where im at now..

ok, i have a 20 gallon tank already set up and have fish in it.....
( 2 black skirt tetras, 2 tiangle fish, 4 neon tetras, 2 silver hatchets, 1 mystery snail)

this diary will mostly be on my new 25 gallon tank, very awesome, here it is brand new..

Picture811762436.jpg

i plan on keeping several live plants in it, altough i only have around 1.6 watts per gallon (gallons divided by watts.......right??) its a 15 watt bult, just one, and it says its for plants and fish's..... came stock with the hood...

here is a update with water, plus gravel, and the heater/filter cycling for a good day or two before i add some more stuff to it..

i let that go for a day while my huge drift wood was soaking in the tub then i put it in, along with three fake plants, and three live plants...
i have a huge amazon sword which i moved from my other 20 gal. tank into this one, and it sprouted another amazon sword, so i have two now, and a potted sword (not sure what kind) and i ordered some micro swords (grass) online,
hoping they will grow rapidly and look awesome... thats is it so far, no fish, just these, i will be getting fish on monday, when our new shipment of fish comes in at the store.... look forward to seeing:

tiger barbs
clown loaches (possibly)
silver dollars (possibly)
red tailed shark
rainbow shark
rubber lipped pacostimst (possibly, might wait till algea gets the best of me)
crab (possibly)
zaciouse fasicouse (not sure how to spell it, but its a yellow shark with black zebra stripes)
mystery snail (possibly, might wait till algea gets the best of me )

but for now here is the latest on my 25 gallon, i bought a black backround i will be adding tomorow....

comments are always welcome, and supported, share your ideas, and give suggestions...... and please help me, by givving advice

silver dollars will eat your live plants.. so might not want to go with those..

they get large also, same with clown loaches...

not sure if you have bigger tanks or know they get big, so thought id mention it..

both tanks look nice though.. i saw the 2nd tank at petsmart awhile ago..

what was it.. like $40 for a 25g tank with hood or something like that?

ok some problems w/ your stock list
1) ruby and rtbs will probably kill each other as they get older
2) silver dollars get to 8" and are active. clown loaches get to a foot. you need at least a 100 gallon tank preferably bigger. they need to be in groups of 3 at least. and 36" worth of fish equals a lot of waste
3) never heard of this yellow shark w/ black stripes. post a pic and real scientific name please. i think i know what your talking about and if its teh fish i think it is your tank will be dead.

That is a pretty neat piece of wood! It would cost about £75 in the UK at least. Not that I'm jealous...

With the clown loach, you need your tank to be at least 48" long, doesn't matter so much with volume.

What's the weird thing that looks like a lightning strike in your tanks? Is it some kind of air pump cos it's pretty neat.
:D

It's watts divided by gallons. You will need to upgrade your lighting to successfully keep live plants, especially with that being a deep tank.

Cool tank anyway. I want to buy one like that because I have a spare 110w compact flourecnt hood that would be perfect for it.

I love the first tank. It is pretty I want to add some plants but my fish eat every one I try to put in thier

Looks like a PetsMart thing you have there :) I got a wonderful 20g Hex there. Real cheery wood trim and stand made by AllGlass Corps. and is a part of their Geneva strand of wood trimed tanks. Great deals there as well. Looks like a great start.

aha! this is where i put my thread !! :*) :S :p

kinda forgot that i put it here, i will most likely make another one in the plant section for my 25 gallon.

thank you for all your beloved comments and help i have indeed lowered my list for the fish going into the semi-agressive tank.... (25 gal.)

-6 tiger barbs
-2 red tailed sharks
-1 dwarf puffer
-1 rubber lipped pacostimist (later)

that is my list sooo far for my semi- agresive, i changed it, but i also heard if you include a air pump it doubles the oxygen, and yet doubles the rule of fish (2'' per gallon) it says it in a petsmart flyer we carry, so we mention it to our customers, what do you guys think about that??...

i have added the black backround and put tobey (my huge mystery snail) in the 25 gal. all by himeself, but wait i found a little tiny baby snail in there the other day, hope he lives, cuz he's cute :D

i ordered some micro sword grass, and upped my lighting to a more powerful bright light that is meant for plant growth, although its only 15 watts, so should i get another hood that allows two stripes of lights????!!!

i am getting fish today, so i will update it tonight or tomorow... thakn you for your help, and please look forward to the update, it will be great!

and for that lighting looking thing...
not sure what you mean, i do have air pumps in both tanks, so the bubbles and teh fizz that kinda looks like a storm would be my air pumps, one has a airstone on it, can you tell which tank :shifty:

i dont know about a puffer living with tiger barbs.. i wouldnt try it but i guess they might be ok if there are places to hide

2 red tail black sharks will kill each other. an RTBS will kill anything that looks anything like it. no ruby, rainbow or other RTBS.if you already bought them TAKE ONE BACK!

ok update time, thanks for the comments
and dont worry about the red tailed sharks, i only plan on getting one down the road, not two....

i bought the following today

SEMI AGGRESIVE TANK:
-6 tiger barbs
-2 dwar puffers ( i love em so much)

COMMUNITY TANK:
-2 guarmis
-2 platy's (male and female = baby's)
-2 guppies (male and female= babys)

ok here are some updated pics...

here is tobey just chillin on the driftwood
Picture811762482.jpg

here is speedy, lucky to get a pick while he was searching for flakes
Picture811762497.jpg

good ol' small tiger barbs, wanna raise em' up to be champs, they are already kinda fighting eachother though, chasing and headbutting, plus nibling, but there is six of them, so hopefully that is enough to keep them occupied from the two puffers...
Picture811762523.jpg

here are my guarmi's... they are pretty nice colored
Picture811762537.jpg

Picture811762541.jpg

and my two favorite additions are my puffers, they are sooo kick ass, love em alot, although i have a male and a female, the male is just chilling on the bottom, doing nothing most of the time looking dead, i read that your tank should be completely cycled before adding these fellows or else it can kill them...... so hopefully they will be ok.
