Well I have three planted tanks, all of the have three things in common..
1. plants
2. lights
3. BBA

There is some BBA in the tanks but has never really taken over, but I would like to remove as much of it as possible.

So for me to see what fish really eats the BBA I setup a very small tank. its a 3 gallon tank with 28Watts of 6400K lights..

I placed a fairly algae covered Anubias with some BBA on the leave ends into the 3 gallon tank..
I have a very small common pleco and a false SAE in the 3 gallon to start. since as far as I know dont eat BBA they were first.

1. False SAE
2. Common pleco

next moring I got to the tank, the plant was clean most of the green algae is now removed from all the leaves. thats was what I was hoping for but I also noticed most of the BBA if removed.. since its not much I thought its just me, but hoping for luck I left the setup for one more day.. Boy I wish I took a the picture of the plant before I placed the pleco in there.. as the end results yesterday was more than that I was hopeing for. all BBA is now removed from the Anubias. there still a little bit of algae left but I'm sure he will eat all of that aswell..

yesterday I placed two true SAE to the tank also with a smaller anubias plant with green algae and BBA, so far nothing happend to the BBA on the plant. there is a large amount of green algae removed from the 2 biggest leaves. both SAE are bussy scraping on the leafes but not much is happening.

this is the best picture I can get of the SAE as they are never still

as for other fish, I still want to add a CAE to the tank, and If I could catch the stick catfish without upsetting the tank to much he will also have a try at it..

I have brown algae, green algae, BBA. I could try and see who eats what.

the fish are added to the tank 3 gallons in size no other food 9.3wpg of 6400K light and a HOB 80g filter

Name Common Pleco ..

Green algae : some was removed from the leaves but there is still some left seems like its not a choise but to way to survive, took 3 days before he start eating it

brown algae : lots within a hour all brown algae was removed from the leafes. the side of the tank also has some and these was also removed with in the same hour

BBA : this was to my suprise eaten within the second day.. everything is now removed from the leafes even while there is still some green algae left

This is a monster of a algae eater, I think he will eat much more than most think its just sad that he will get to big for most tanks.. on the Anubias he did no damage to the leafes but I places some watersprite with brown algae to the tank, and he ate everything but the roots..

Name False Siamese algae eater

Green algae : most was removed within the first day, some are still left on the plant, although I was hopeing he would eat more I added him to the tank with the pleco to help remove the last bit of green algae, he was not much of a help

Brown algae : not much was touched and most of the algae in the tank is still there.

BBA : Nothing was touched. three days later and there might now be more that when I added him to the tank..

this is not really a good algae eater at all.. I placed some watersprite the tank with brown algae and he didnt even try to eat any of the algae, also no damage was done to any of the leafes..

Contestant no 3.

Name True Siamese algae eater

Green algae : lots were eaten by them mostly the easy the get on the most middle of the leafes there is after three days still more than 50% left

Brown algae : there was not much in the tank but most seem to been eaten this only started to become less after day two

BBA : they are still in the tank on day three and none of the BBA is touched, I will leaving them for a extra two days as I have read that they will eat it, sometime?

I added a smaller Anubias to the tank as I'm now running out of stuff with BBA on them, and some other plant that got some algae on them. None of the leafes were damage even the softer leafes of the watersprite that had some brown algae on them is cleaned but no damage to leafes as far as my naked eye could see.
