dont forget to test your water first and post readings here before adding fish, you need a test kit for ammonia, nitrites and nitrates, ph and what about a heater. di

Ah yes, I have a 200W heater in there (you can see it in the pic). And yes I was going to test for all that fun stuff

So here are my test results:

pH: 8.0
Ammonia: 1.0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 40-80ish (hard to tell the difference between the colors)

I know plants like ammonia, but should I do a water change to bring it down some? I know though that I need ammonia in order for the nitrites to build up.

When I am going to add fish though, I am planning on taking media from my 15G and placing it in this tank to get a kick start on cycling. Should I even do that now to help out with it as there is already ammonia in the water?

(PS I have not been adding ammonia or any fish food what-so-ever, I believe it's from the dirt I used)
